Martin Gardner comes through again with a great book of puzzles. There is a lot of material here to keep you thinking for quite a while. One of the better book of puzzles I have seen.

I lost my copy of this book, and wanted it for the description of Soma Cubes, and illustrations of forms that could (or could not!) be made with them. I used to make these for friends, with childrens wooden alphabet blocks, long before a commercial version (with smaller blocks) came out. The book is, as it says, full of puzzles and diversions for the mathematically inclined. It can be enjoyed even by those who do not want to get into all the mathematical why's and wherefore's of how something works. (Volume 1 has the chapter on Hexaflexagons, a wonderful bit of paper folding that looks two-sided but can be 'flexed' to show six sides. )
