When the first edition of the Encyclopedic Dictionary of Mathematics appeared in 1977, it was immediately hailed as a landmark contribution to mathematics: "The standard reference for anyone who wants to get acquainted with any part of the mathematics of our time" (Jean Dieudonné, American Mathematical Monthly). All the articles have been newly edited and revised to take account of recent work, and the extensive appendixes have been expanded to make them even more useful. clear, comprehensive, well-organized

being a computer programmer - not a mathematician, from this dictionary I hope to get ideas about mathematical concepts referred to in some computer theory books.

The entries are extensive (like small chapters from an in-depth book on each topic). The topics are grouped. Each topic is explained in context without the need to hop all over the book (unless you do not understand the terms used to explain the topic).

Extensive indices form the 4th book of the book set. References follow each topic.

I suppose it is very difficult to prepare a dictionary of mathematics that could do the job any better.

Hopefully there will be further editions of this dictionary from the same publisher / authors.
