Product Description

Liberals don’t have all the facts about

HOMOSEXUALITY

Neither do Conservatives

Is your congregation studying the issues surrounding ordination of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people? Have you run into a dead end looking for authoritative, current curricular material? You’ll be astonished at the information that has been known for years in seminaries and universities but has been unavailable to lay readers. Until now.

This book presents the broad range of Biblical, theological, and scientific source material that churches are seeking for their study of these critical issues.

  • What does the Bible say about sexual orientation and behavior? Look at a variety of interpretations
  • What does science say about the effectiveness of conversion therapy? Read the studies and weigh the evidence

Can members of a congregation engage with the questions of ordination standards; study, analyze, and weigh the data; come to their own conclusions; and still remain friends at the end of the day? The authors of this book did. And now we are sharing these resources with you, so that you can explore primary sources and consider a broad range of viewpoints regarding the issues that are raised by ordination standards. Join us in this task. Do the hard work, ask the tough questions, consider the evidence, and come to your own informed decisions.

“You have produced a massive reference work. The research behind it is stunning… You have maintained a calm and open tone throughout and been careful to show various possibilities of interpretation.”—Rev. Jack B. Rogers, Ph.D., Professor of Theology Emeritus, San Francisco Theological Seminary; Moderator, 213th General Assembly, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

“This is a beautifully written and carefully reasoned piece of work.”—Michael W. Ross, MA, MS, Ph.D., MPH, MHPEd, DipTertEd, DipSTD, DipAppCrim Professor of Public Health, University of Texas.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing accomplishment, March 27, 2006
By Bruce Robinson (Kingston, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I only gave this book 5 stars because no more than 5 are allowed.

This book is in a class by itself. All or essentially all other books that deal with homosexuality do so from a specific point of view: either
- conservative (homosexuality is a behavior -- what one does -- that is abnormal, unnatural, chosen, changeable, intrinsically immoral and hated by God) or
- liberal (homosexuality is an orientation -- what one is -- that is unchosen, fixed, morally neutral, accepted by God and is normal and natural for a minority of adults).

The authors of this book have attempted to describe all vierwpoints about homosexuality in an objective manner. It is an amazing accomplishment.
