We used this in my college Math course, and it actually had me pretty addicted to math for a while! We only used selected chapters, but those we used were easy to navigate, even somewhat fun to read, and the math really was practical (ex.-- fair division problems, helping you solve everything from the division of your estate to how to fairly divide a piece of pie!).

I saw URI using this book for a course taught there. The book wasn't what I expected when I got it. The topics are ok, but I don't like the style of the book. The book is just verbose in my opinion. However, some people like that kind of style in a book. If you like a wordy book in mathematics then I highly recommend this book to you.

I have taught from this book, and I love it. When I first encountered it, I was highly skeptical: "What can a committee do well, anyhow???" Well, this committee (COMAP) did a great job of assembling gems which have stood the test of time and have resurfaced in many courses I've taught. It is well-researched, and the problems range from the mundane to the challenging, making it great for a variety of levels of students. There are associated videos which are also well thought out! I highly recommend this book if you are looking to teach out of it. There are a few dry chapters, but just like a good cookbook, there is plenty to keep you going for at least two semesters, even if you leave out every section you personally find to be less than exciting.

This book is absolutely horrendous. Its answers are frequently incorrect, its explanations are incomprehensible, and to top it all off the pages are scantily glued together and easily fall apart. What kind of monster wrote this book?
