This book is a good reference for many aspects of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare. The author was deluded though in his claims that the USSR had a most effective and thorough protection program for its citizens. The Chernobyl disaster, which occurred after this book was written proved otherwise.

I purchased this pamphlet from Nitro-Pak in November 2010, and frankly at $18.99 (their current price) for sixty-two pages, it is grossly overpriced. Their glowing and effusive blurb in no way accurately describes the actual pamphlet.

It was written in 1977 and does not appear to have been updated since. As a slice of history from the height of the cold war as seen from a British Defence Expert's perspective, it's a moderately interesting read. It's lavishly illustrated with charts and graphs and tables, and the author devotes considerable space to what are now 40-year-old weapons systems, status of forces, and orders of battle for the never-realized clash of NATO and the Red Army in Western Europe - none of which have any relevance to the American Ordinary Joe or Ordinary Jane who's seeking preparedness information. It does have some useful general information, but nothing that is not contained in many other, better books and manuals (i.e. Cresson Kearney's 'Nuclear War Survival Skills').

For what it is and for what it costs, pass it by.
