After I realized his school was participating in the MOEM, I got this book for my son to practice. We would both try a couple of pages of problems every week, and he enjoyed "competing" with me.
At the end of the school year, I was delighted to find that my son won the trophy for highest individual scorer on his team, and also got a "gold pin" awarded to the top 2% of Elementary Olympiad test takes. I can without any hesitation attribute his success largely to the regular practice sessions from this Excellent book.

My 4th grade son really likes this book. He challenges himself solving the problems in this book. I recommend this book for the kids older than 9 years.

This is an excellent book. It helps you understand what Math Olympiad is and how it works. It has examples and tests and sample questions, and explains the questions in detail. It really helped me understand the problems so that I could help my daughter understand the problems. I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in Math Olympiad or has a child in it.

6/12: Math Olympiad Contest Problems for Elementary and Middle Schools, Vol. 1 is an amazing compilation of problems: many of them not really too challenging but very thoughtful. I've used the problems on my students at high school level despite the intended audience because many of my students couldn't do these problems since they required three points of mastery: reading comprehension, usage of proper techniques, and translation of English words to mathematical statements. Now, they can do it, which is nice to see, thanks to the book.

Performing word problems is the consummate skill in mathematics next to doing proofs, and it's the hallmark of a mathematics education. That's why I took advantage of the book for what it set out to accomplish: to educate and to show how to solve word problems. The problems contained in the book are all well done, and even better, the author goes one step further by furnishing complete fully worked out solutions at the back of the book.

Two chief complaints I have with the book are as follows.

One, I've found some certain classifications of problems to be fairly repetitive throughout the book, and I would have liken to see a bit more variety, a new type of a classification or two.

Two, although I see the worked out solutions, there are actually more ways of arriving at the same solutions using by simple techniques yet the author decided to take the complicated route without mentioning easier paths. It would have been nice just to see such techniques for the sake of simplicity.

One big bonus of the book is the Number Theory notes; extremely useful in the advanced stages of mathematics competitions.

This book provides a huge amount of problems, which are well written and intriguing. My students love it. It's difficult to find books with advanced contest style problems -- this is a valuable resource.

it has many olympiad math questions with solutions. Also in appendix it provides a summary of many math theories, formulas which is handy. this is my first olympiad book and seems like a good book.

This book is brilliant. It has tons of outside-the-box, deep thinking problems to complement the more ordinary 4th-7th grade curriculum of fractions, decimals, and intro algebra/geometry. The problems are so creative, so interesting. The past couple years the 5th grade students I worked with started the year completely lost trying these, and then by the end of the year were quite skilled problem readers and problem solvers. The problems were so engaging that the kids mostly taught themselves, with some hints and tricks from me.
