Written and illustrated by an inspired mathematician at Brown University, whose two young mathematically playful daughters appear periodically and delightfully throughout the book's wondrous drawings. It is a classic book to which I can imagine a child returning again and again as s/he grows older, getting more out of it each time, as larger and larger numbers and mathematical ideas dance tantalizingly into your grasp. Combinatorics, graph theory, higher dimensional geometry, the pigeonhole principle, and even a dash of chemistry into the mix. (Visualizing Avogadro's number in a vividly memorable way he credits to his high school chemistry teacher: if you had a mole of carbon atoms and turned each atom into a person, you could fill up 15 hollowed-out earths with them!)

I won this book in a giveaway at goodreads.com...thanks
This is quite simply a fabulous book!!! The illustrations are bold, colorful, and beautiful. The narration is engaging and exciting, encouraging a love of math. I read this a thoroughly enjoyed it and now I'm looking forward to reading it with my grandchildren who are 4 and 7. I do believe that any age would enjoy a trip thru this delightful and educational book. It is a brilliant book.

Format: Paperback
An outstanding book, which has quickly become one of my 7 year old son's favorites. We alternate reading (I do the left, he does the right) and thus use it to practice both non-trivial reading and non-trivial mathematics (though we might stay on the bronco a bit longer than most, as I'm a mathematician). The topics connect to items he's seen, and are a wonderful tour through numbers and math. I highly recommend this friendly book.

Format: Paperback
Appropriate for little people through middle school, although some of the ideas are challenging for an adult lay reader with some science or math background. There is an associated website that provides drawings from the book that can be colored by a young reader.

I am a K-6 math teacher and I love how this book gets kids excited about math. This book has a lot of potential for sparking mathematical curiosity in your students while increasing your own knowledge and understanding of really big numbers
