Product Description

Lack of sleep, hormone overload, and a tiny human being that requires constant attention--it all conspires to extinguish a new mom's brain. What rises in its place is a brain that's fuzzy, and focused only on the basics: food, poop, and sleep. That, my friend, is a case of momnesia.

This hilarious how-to guide, full of coping tips, brain boosters, diagrams, and anecdotes, can help moms reclaim their brains. More important, Momnesia also maintains a mom's sense of humor as she leaves her car keys in the freezer, forgets her husband's name, or accidentally runs over the diaper bag (again).

Momnesia is a sweet and funny gift that's perfect for celebrating baby showers and congratulating new moms.

* Momnesia is packed with small bits of baby-themed humor, tips, quizzes, cartoons, lists, and more that empathize with the ups and downs of motherhood.

* It's a great companion book to the authors' work about breastfeeding, cleverly titled If These Boobs Could Talk.

* It's a fact: momnesia happens. In early 2008, CNN reported a study that found 82 percent of women claimed some type of absentmindedness during pregnancy and shortly after giving birth, including memory loss and an inability to concentrate.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's My Name Again?, June 9, 2009
An inexpensive gift book for new moms, Momnesia provides a humorous look at those months after a child's birth, when moms get so little sleep that they start forgetting not only their own name, but that of their child as well. The illustrations are cute; the many quizzes, charts and commentary amusing, especially if you've been there, done that, and got the baby stains on your shirt to prove it. An easy present for a mom on Mother's Day, if you aren't going to give the better one, and watch the newborn for a night so she can sleep through the night for once.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Book for a New Natural Mom, May 6, 2009
It's hard to explain to someone who hasn't raised a baby just what it's like to deal with the sudden stress of responsibility, the complete lack of sleep, the hungry cries and the wild hormonal swings that occur. This book does a great job of adding a lighthearted look into the situation and helping a new mom smile with recognition.

You definitely don't want to take this book too seriously. There are silly word scrambles where the words only have 2 letters each. Rearrange TI into a word. There are maps of the brain, showing just how confused it has become. Suggestions for how to survive a cocktail party when your brain is mostly asleep. Great drawings and funny stories.

The book helps a new mom realize that she's not alone in what she's going through - that every new mother has felt fuzzy headed, has made mistakes, has to struggle sometimes to adjust to her new world. A lot of the book is about breast pump humor and hormonal surges, so I do say that this is for natural moms - not for dads or adoptive parents. I don't mind that - there are enough books out there that there are 'cute funny' books for every segment of the population.

This is a great book to give as a new baby present. I'm not sure I'd give it as a baby shower present - the mom-to-be simply won't get many of the jokes or sympathize fully with them. If you give her the book after week one or two of having the baby in her arms, suddenly the book becomes hilarious and she understands just where the jokes are coming from. And then she'll start crying. Darn hormones!

Well recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars So relatable!, April 27, 2009
Finally there is a name for my syndrome. As a mom of three, this book is especially hilarious. It is filled with oddly relatable moments of the mommy mush brain tips to help reclaim our pre-baby smarts. It is the perfect antidote to the 'uber mom', over achieving expectations plaguing so many people. This book will certainly make you laugh and is the perfect gift for other moms in your life. (I pair it with the Boob book for new moms). Love these authors. They get it right every time.
