Review

"A spellbinding page-turner." -- Greater Niagara Newspapers, reviewer Julie Obermiller

Terrific twists and great suspense. Dynamic, interesting characters. A good book, with plenty of conflict and a great hook. -- Writer's Digest

Product Description

Little Danny Manning is an adorable angel whose startling abilities are veiled in secrecy. When the boy disappears, detective Tony Favata catches the case. With no clues, a distracted partner and a frenzied media feasting on wild tales, sorting the guilty from the innocent isn't easy. Danny's frantic mother claims to be a clueless victim, but is she complicit? A deadbeat dad, a deranged granny, a prickly pediatrician, a scheming research scientist and a sinister cabal with deep pockets and scary proclivities all come under suspicion. Tony decides the truth is obvious, but can he prove it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Paradigm, July 15, 2007
Everyone is sure that Kate Manning has finally lost her mind completely. She has always been extremely secretive and excessively protective of her young son Danny. However, now that the boy has suddenly disappeared, the police aren't really sure if Kate finally snapped and killed her son or if the boy was really kidnapped. Kate's story about Danny being abducted by shimmering alien like creatures seems rather outrageous and straight from the mind of the deranged. That she claims Danny is a powerful psychic and that a local scientist is responsible for the disappearance is beyond all logical comprehension. Detective Tony Favata truly has his work cut out for him on this case.

Paradigm is a fresh and very entertaining concept interwoven with believable characters. The reader will find him or herself identifying with the characters in this book and wondering what he or she would do given the same situation. Would they believe Kate Manning? If they were Kate Manning would they have the courage and enough belief in their own sanity to stick to a story that makes them look terribly guilty? What would they do to protect their child?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great cast of Newton characters!, April 2, 2005
By The Chatterbox (Barker, NY USA) - See all my reviews
As with all of Newton's books, the characters in Paradigm invite you in as a close observer of their drama. When four year old Danny disappears under startling circumstances, the reader is gripped in a clock-ticking search for the child and the truth.
Kate Manning, loving mother, must battle a power-crazed research doctor, a suspicious detective and her own fears. How can she convince others what she can hardly believe, that Danny disappeared before her very eyes? What do the boy's telekinetic powers have to do with the strange apparition?
Readers will love-to-hate the deadbeat dad, the religious fanatic grandmother and the sinister government types lurking in the shadows. There are twists at every turn.
This suspense filled book will keep you caught up in the mystery of Kate and Danny while offering a little romance, a few lighthearted moments and unforgettable characters. You'll find yourself wanting a sequal- soon!
In this age of gratuitous violence and sex creeping into every genre, it's refreshing to find a book that doesn't pander to to cheapness and relies on a great plot, deliciously served up with entertaining sub-plots and a great cast. Paradigm is certainly suitable for young adults as well.
This is Newton's hat-trick; three books totally unrelated except for their great writing!
