Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Mix together a leggy Police Detective with an attitude, a messy murder case, and add a dash of small town humor for a delicious treat.

"He didn't drop the gun," Noonan said calmly, as if killing a man was as routine as remembering to set the alarm before you left the house.

Finding a corrupt, manipulative politician beneath a charming exterior is nothing unusual. Unraveling the connection to a twenty year old suicide and linking him to a string of present day bodies is another matter. Police Detective Bev Henderson of Verde Key, Florida doesn't care that rising star State Senator Warren Randall belongs to a wealthy and powerful family. What she does care about is a missing woman, a dead accountant and people who think they can paint the truth in shades other than black and white.

About the Author
Charlie Hudson's third novel combines her easy story telling style with her passion for scuba diving. She and her husband have settled in South Florida after both completed careers in the U.S. Army.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlie Hudson gets better and better, March 29, 2007
Good solid police procedural with a laid-back Florida twist. Verde Key is where Ed McBain's characters head when they can afford a winter break. Lots of water, sun, Jimmy Buffet, booze, good seafood, and murder. Like Katherine V. Forrest's big-city detective Kate Delafield, Verde Key's Det. Bev Henderson has the stick-to-it-ness and likeability to be around a long time. Good follow-up to "Shades of Murder."

5.0 out of 5 stars The best in the trio, January 26, 2009

I love series novels. This is the third in her "Shades" novels and by far the best one. I found myself really analyzing the story and trying to solve the crime along the way. A great escape novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Second time is even better., June 10, 2007

What a great opening chapeter! Think of Detective Bev Henderson being as persistant as Columbo, but with the added flare of Sue Grafton's Kinsey Milhone. Enough plot twists to keep you guessing and an ending that you'd never expect. Please give us more Charlie Hudson.

Charlie Hudson does it again! She gives us a tightly written plot, well rounded characters, and a wonderful twist at the end. The action moves quickly and left me wanting more.
