5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. All his books are an easy read, September 28, 2005
This is the first of his series of books and covers the basics of using the 16F84. They are printed in what seems to be a home-publishing style, but they are very clear and avoid the dreaded academic speak.

At first he avoids the use of bank switching by using two obsolete microchip instructions. That put me off at first but it works out OK and he deals with bank switching later in the book

If you go on to his later books you will cover everything you are ever likely to need. He has now written a book on the PIC18 series, "Movin up".

These books grow on you. I usually find that when I need to find out something it is one of the Benson books that gives me the answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars PIC 16F84, May 25, 2005
This book is excellent! I dont know why it is priced so much on here, mine says $29.95 on the back. Anyway, this book focuses mainly on the PIC16F84A, however, the commands are the same for most PIC models. This is a total beginers book. If you have some basic knowledge in electronics, and the hexadecimal number system then this will teach you the PIC microcontroller from scratch. Even if you are not familiar with these you can still learn with this book, you will just have to do a little research on some topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!, December 18, 2008
By Matthew W. Moses (las vegas, nv) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I really am a fan of this book and the entire series by this author. I have also purchased several other books for learning the PIC16F and this one is the best hands down. It skips the nonsense and explains in clear detail the critical issues where people often get stuck. It truly mitigates a great deal of frustration for beginners. It is written for some one who has a minimal background in electronics. When learning a new technology, always the most difficult part is just getting started. This book has been invaluable as a resource to a beginner.
