Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Fusing the growing intensity of his live performances with his background in electro-acoustic composition, the result is a collection of pieces that are intense and epic, and at the same time, down to earth and welcoming. Unlike the completely electronic "Spiderman Of The Rings", the instrumentation on "Bromst" is a mixture of acoustic and mechanical instruments, samples, and electronics. The intricate and complex parts are woven together into a rich, dense, noisy dance pop that has become Deacon's signature sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars whoa, July 7, 2009
I think I've found the soundtrack to my summer. I hardly listen to any music that ventures this far into electronica, but I might if more of it were this well composed. It's not a perfectly consistent album though - "Surprise Stefani" and "Get Older" don't do much for me, and "Baltihorse" would be much better with a big anthemic group vocal, or even as a purely instrumental song...anything but those "chipmunk" vocals!

But at its best (Build Voice, Wet Wings, Woof Woof, Slow with Horns), it's nearly as brilliant as any of the music I love. In fact, in its finest moments, I'm reminded of one of my favorite bands, Sigur Ros. Not in style, obviously, but in the grandeur and complexity of the music.

Maybe not quite a classic, but still a really, really great album to listen to in the car on a bright summer day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance is Not Enough, June 20, 2009
By Riley Tunnell (Denton, TX, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"Bromst" is all kinds of brilliance. Every once in a while an album comes along that cuts you in half, "Bromst" is that album. Dan Deacon has set the water mark so high for not only the new post-modern/electronica scene, but music in general. This is as far as music has come. "Bromst" is equal parts the beautiful electro shoegaze of M83, the brilliance of Steve Reich, and the technicallity of Battles. If you made a slide show of every beautiful image you'd ever seen, this would be it's soundtrack. I don't cry, and at first listen this album brought tears to my eyes. This album is one soaring triumph after another. What sets Dan Deacon apart from other electronica artists is he's ability to make electronica sound so natural. Where usually you have two alienating computers making bizzare noises, Deacon's compositions incorporate real instruments that weave in and out of waves of synthesis. An album this mind blowing has not been heard since Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here". Dan Deacon is the future of music. Hopefully this album is appreciated for what it truly is; a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars new sounds to floss your brain, May 4, 2009
To me this is a break through piece of work. stradeling the rift between electronica and something much more organic the music Deacon produces stakes out new ground in a swirling shifting landscape. moving from delicate to overwrought it could serve as a soundtrack to our generation of ADHD. on par with Animal Collective the songs on this release feed those hungry for everything all at once.
