2008 Pulitzer Prizes

The 2008 Pulitzer Prizes were awarded on April 7. As usual, the finalists were revealed at the same time as the winners, which included, in the books categories:

Newbery and Caldecott Winners

The American Library Association announced its 2008 children's book awards on January 14, including the biggest children's prizes of the year, the Newbery Medal for literature and the Caldecott Medal for illustration. This year's winners:

IACP Cookbook Awards: 2008 Winners

Fish Forever
On April 18 the International Association of Culinary Professionals announced the winners of their 2008 book awards, including Cookbook of the Year, Fish Forever: The Definitive Guide to Understanding, Selecting, and Preparing Healthy, Delicious, and Environmentally Sustainable Seafood by Paul Johnson.

2007 National Book Awards

The favorites won big at the 2007 National Book Awards on November 14, including the first major prize for the long-admired Denis Johnson for his novel of soldiers and spies in Vietnam and a nonfiction award to another book on the CIA, Tim Weiner's scorching history of the agency. The winners:

2007 Man Booker Prize Winner

The 2007 Man Booker Prize, the UK's top literary prize and the most watched single-book award in the English-speaking world, went to darkhorse contender Anne Enright for her novel, The Gathering, which has brought the Irish writer comparisons to Joan Didion, Alice Munro, Don DeLillo, and many others. 2008 Edgar Award Winners

Down River
The winners for this year's Edgar Awards, sponsored by the Mystery Writers of America, were announced on May 1, including in-house favorites Down River by John Hart for Best Novel and In the Woods by Tana French for Best First Novel.
