In my own words
While I appreciate the compliment of being asked to review books, I would prefer not to receive any solicitations. I always have multiple reading projects underway and really do not have the leisure to take on random books. Favorite Music

Rock: Big Star, Television, Dylan, Built to Spill, Elvis Costello, Iron and Wine, the Shins, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Eleventh Dream Day, the Pixies, PJ Harvey, the Mekons, Gram Parsons.

Favorite Movies

Names rather than Movies: Lubitsch, Preston Sturges, Howard Hawks, Astaire and Rogers with or without Astaire or Rogers, Egoyan, the Marx Brothers, Kurosawa, Mitchell Leisen, Billy Wilder, Lombard, Bogart, and any of the classic screwball comedies.

Other Favorites

Although I'm a long time and intensely serious film buff, I'm one of those who believes TV can be better than film because of its long-term narrative superiority and ability to provide deeper contextualization. My favorite TV Shows (roughly in chronological order) are: DOBIE GILLIS, THE PRISONER, MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS, FAWLTY TOWERS, TWIN PEAKS, THE X-FILES, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, FARSCAPE, ANGEL, ALIAS, FIREFLY, DEAD LIKE ME, WONDERFALLS, 24, SMALLVILLE, THE GILMORE GIRLS, LOST, and VERONICA MARS.

4.0 out of 5 stars A huge improvement over previous several issues, July 5, 2008
As excited as I've been by the BUFFY comics over the past several months, I've been precisely that unexcited by the ANGEL. I've suspected that the problem is the writing. BUFFY has had Joss Whedon, Brian K. Vaughan, and Drew Goddard writing its arcs, while Brian Lynch has been writing the ANGEL. At... Read More
