The reviewer who alleges to be a WWII vet and then goes on to claim that Gingrich and Forstchen are pandering to the Japanese in order to gain a foreign rights book sale there, is way off the mark. The horrifically graphic scene in the book, about what happened at Nanking, will most likely impact any chance of a sale in that country and for me shatters as well any argument that the authors were "pandering," to the Japanese view point. The power of this book is, that for perhaps the first time in a novel, American authors have attempted to look at the war in the Pacific from "the other side," in much the same way Eastwood did with "Letters from Iwo Jima." "In telling my story, I do not wish to impress anyone or present myself as a hero," says ex-Wehrmacht soldier William Lubbeck in the foreword of his book. "God had other plans for me and spared my life."

A forward observer for the 58th Division, Lubbeck witnessed death and destruction on a scale that's difficult to imagine. Whether from a Russian sniper fixing his sights, or Katyusha rockets screaming out of the sky, death was an ever-presen… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting and Helpful! , February 5, 2006
This book is basically a collection of articles taken from wartime issues of Army Motors magazine, all concerning the maintenance and care of the MB/GPW military jeep. There are many things in them not covered in the government-issued TM's. The articles also discuss field modifications and have many interesting historical tidbits as well. Unlike the TM's, this is not at all a dry text...many of the articles are actually very humorous, as they were intentionally written that way in order to get the GI's to read them. This book would be a great addition to any MB/GPW owner's jeep library.
