Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
Grade 3-6--In this sequel to Dork on the Run (HarperCollins, 2002), Jerry Flack has recently been elected class president, and the sixth-grade committee has decided to create an Elizabethan Festival to coincide with reading A Midsummer Night's Dream in language-arts class. The boy also persuades cool Zoey Long to befriend an unpopular girl and, with the help of his girlfriend, Brenda McAdams, musters the courage to stand up to a bully. With both humor and charm, Gorman illustrates middle-school life in the face of students' concerns about popularity and bullying. The characters are typical of kids found in every school, but Jerry and his friends turn out to be anything but ordinary. With his help, the children realize that popularity is more than beauty and coolness; integrity and compassion are what actually make a person cool. This honest portrayal of preteen socialization will entertain and enlighten.--Leigh Ann Morlock, Vernonia School District, OR

From Booklist
Gr. 4-7. After his victory in the race for class president in Dork on the Run (2002), Jerry Flack tries to implement his platform by setting up a committee of students to "suggest cool things for the class." The committee decides to put on an Elizabethan fair as a money raiser, which fits with classroom study of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Jerry has largely vanquished the bullies who plagued him in the series' earlier books. The loutish Craig Fox, though, has managed to acquire a puppy, which he is obviously mistreating. Encouraged by his girlfriend, Jerry valiantly tries to make Craig give up the dog, first by agreeing to eat dog food for lunch and then by wearing a skirt at the opening of the Elizabethan fair. Any novel that centers on an endangered puppy risks going over the top, but Gorman nails the complex social structures of the sixth-grade world, making this an entertaining addition to the series.
