From the Back Cover
An essential guidebook to get you through the highs and lows of modern-day grandparenting

Gone are the days when your role as a grandparent was easily definable as the provider of homemade cookies and a quick game of catch. Times have changed, and so have grandparents. You're healthier, wealthier, younger, and smarter than any previous generation. Families have also become far more diverse and complex, making the role of grandparent more complicated, unclear, and confusing. Fortunately, Arthur Kornhaber, M.D., can help you through the experience with The Grandparent Guide.

  • Learn how grandparenting can provide you with a powerful identity while conferring important meaning and influence on your life.
  • Gain an understanding of your critical importance in your grandchild's life and the many roles you play, each one giving you an opportunity to love, teach, and support.
  • Learn how to increase your coping skills and be an effective grandparent in any family situation.
  • Explore modern grandparenting issues that range from cybergrandparenting and adoption to families of same-sex parents and raising grandchildren yourself.
  • Learn how to support parents, who serve as the linchpin of your relationship with your grandchild.
  • Learn how you can be a positive role model for future generations of your family.

Also included in this authoritative guidebook are an extensive bibliography, lists of websites and support groups, and descriptions of recommended books and films on related subjects.

By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
The Grandparent Guide: The Definitive Guide To Coping With The Challenges Of Modern Grandparenting by child and family therapist Arthur Kornhaber (who is also the president and founder of the Foundation for Grandparenting) is an extensive and informative resource written especially for grandparents, and covers everything from adoption and baby-sitting, to gift giving, legal issues, parental and grandparent divorce, religious differences, mentoring, visitations, estate planning, and much, much more. The Grandparent Guide is strongly recommended for personal and community library Parenting Reference collections and guides as an in-depth, highly practical tome of solid wisdom, greatly needed in today's diverse and fast-paced world.
