Product Description

At loose ends with your locks? Let the “Queen of Curl” show you how to bring out the best in your hair.

The lengths that women go to in order to tame their curls! If you’ve been blessed with curly hair, chances are that you’ve thought of it as a curse, complaining, “It’s uncontrollable!” “It’s a mess!” or “It’s so frizzy and
tangly!” Out of frustration, you may have mistakenly resorted to methods (straighteners, irons, blow-dryers) that only cause more damage to your hair. Now renowned New York City stylist Ouidad sets the record straight on curly hair and shows you how to start loving the waves, kinks, and curls you were born with. In Curl Talk, Ouidad reveals the secrets to bringing out your natural beauty, including:
* Finding the right cut
* How often to shampoo (and why you never wrap your wet hair in a towel)
* Why brushes and mousses should be outlawed
* The best conditioning and styling treatments
* Blow-drying, coloring, and straightening the safe way

Based on Ouidad’s experience catering solely to curly-haired clients at her exclusive Manhattan salon, Curl Talk is a straight-talking guide for your daily struggle with the frizzies, offering simple, step-by-step solutions for getting a gorgeous head of curls. It will revolutionize the way you treat your hair.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save your $$$ on this one. Instead, get CURLY GIRL by Massey, October 1, 2003
By Lola Pantone (Plymouth, MI, USA) - See all my reviews
I've had to deal with my curls all my life, and I was hoping that this would help. It didn't. I later purchased Massey's book, Curly Girl, which has totally helped. As a professional model, the way my hair looks is an integral part of my career. I saw Ouidad on Glow (the TV show on the Style Network) and thought that although she merely COATED Linda Lopez's hair with product, maybe the book would have more to it. Not true. The book -as another reviewer said- was pure, shameless self promotion and did LITTLE to provide actual assistance in the matter of caring for you hair. On the other hand, Massey's book, Curly Girl, gave you TOOLS to care for you hair, and even developed a fool-proof system. What I liked most about MASSEY'S system is that she wrote about all types of curl textures, regardless of your ethnicity. Furthermore, I even visited Massey's salon in NYC, which is called Devachan, and I must admit that they actually walked the walk & talked the talk. The knowledge behind Curly Girl is apparent in the salon, & I only wish that *all* women had a salon like that near them! (I traveled from Michigan...I was in NYC for a fashion show.) Bottom line: If you want to be taught to buy products, get Ouidad's book. If you want to be taught about your hair, how to care for it, how to love it, and what works for it & get it to look good, buy Massey's. The choice is clear, Curlies!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Ordinary, October 10, 2002
By Cydni Perkins (cedar city, utah United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know about hair care just from owning curly hair and wearing it curly for the last 23 years. The directions for making the hairstyles were very difficult to follow - I saw a hairstyle in the book and tried to duplicate it, but the instructions Ouidad had given confused me and the style didn't turn out. It kind of bothered me that she gave instructions for straightening hair. I want to make my curls look better, not damage my precious hair with straightening treatments! Overall, I was bored and annoyed with this book. Curly Girl is a lot better.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some good curl advice but not a book to live by, August 28, 2004
This book does have some good advice for handling curl if you are absolutely clueless as to how to manage your mane. However, I did not find it to have as much complete iformation as the book, Curly Girl, which I highly recommend.

The good points about Curl Talk is she teaches the chronic "touchers" to leave their hair alone and emphasizes the importance of moisturizing and protecting your fragile locks. However, the information is at times incomplete, especially for beginners, and often not well written on points that are difficult to understand; leaving the reader not fully capable of following her instructions. The photographes are very poor and considering the poorly written instructions, the photographs are of importance for the reader to understand her directions, especially when trying to copy a specific hair style.

The book is a fair example of general information about curly hair, but does not go into enough detail nor is it written well enough to be the end-all instruction manual for curly hair.

Try Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey, it's a great book to release your inner Curly Diva.
