Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Madison is Wisconsin’s capital city and the “land of the four lakes.” Since the city’s founding 150 years ago, rich and poor have lived in close proximity surrounded by the beautiful lakes, a fact that has played a role in the city’s aspirations toward social justice and a good quality of life for all its residents. Celebrate Madison’s 150th birthday as women born between 1915 and 1957 reminisce about growing up here. Meet their families and friends, enjoy their pastimes, and ultimately follow them through their experience of an adventure everyone shares—coming of age at a particular place and time, receiving its stamp on one’s character, values, and ambitions. These moving, entertaining first-person accounts gleaned from oral history interviews with women from a wide range of backgrounds reveal the changing nature of Madison over time.

About the Author
Sarah White, author and personal historian, helps people record their life stories for presentation in book form and more. She has been a Madison resident since 1979.

This is a great book for anyone who is interested in Madison WI. My Husband is from Madison and his family is still there. So when I spotted this book, I thought it would be a nice little gift for Christmas. It turned out to be a big hit. My Mother-In-Law grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood and knew a lot of the people in the book along with a lot of the stories in it. My husband also grew up there until they tore it down. It's a really good book because it's not a fluff piece. It actually tells you a lot of what went on back then. Things that my Husband didn't even know, but my Mother-In-Law confirmed when he asked. Anyway, if you're interested in the history of Madison, I highly recommend it!
