These books are excellent. I definitely recommend buying this version rather than the separate books. These books have taught me a lot about flute-playing. Rather than just compiling a book of exercises, Trevor Wye intersperses his teaching throughout the book, so that when you play through the exercises, it is like he is standing there coaching you.

A couple notes (no pun intended) for those considering purchasing this book. Some of the technique exercises will require some facility on the flute, so it is not for beginners. (Although I use the tone exercises in some form with ALL of my students, from 4th grade on up) I recommend the Beginner's Books for the Flute by Trevor Wye if you are just starting out. Also, in general, he uses A# as often as he does Bb. If you are not used to this, it will take a little practice. He does this in the Beginner's Books, so if you go through those first it should be no problem. By the way, I think this is VERY much needed for flute players, as many flutists (at least in America) are comfortable only in a few of the flat keys, and go to pieces when asked to play in a key having more than one or two sharps. One more thing about the book, since Trevor Wye is from England, he uses different terms than we in America. For example, instead of quarter note, eighth note, etc. he uses quaver, crotchet, etc. So that might be a little confusing at first. But don't let that stop you from buying this book!!

I hope this information is helpful. I highly recommend this book!! I also recommend the Complete Daily Exercises for the Flute, also by Trevor Wye. (I could not find it here on Amazon, but you should be able to find it elsewhere with no problem.) It is more a compilation of exercises rather than a "teaching" book like this one. I think every advancing flute player should own both of these books.

This book covers almost everything there is when it comes to developing tone, technique and skill. I'm really enjoying it. I think it is a must for beginners, and also really useful for the developing-intermediate flutist that needs a little more to get to the advanced level. my tone is better allready...

This set is all-inclusive. If you follow his system, no matter whether what level you play, you will improve continuously. This is a classic set of practice books that will be well worn and still used in twenty years on your bookshelf.
