5.0 out of 5 stars Most Original Civil War Book in Years!, December 25, 1999
By Martin J. Greco (New England) - See all my reviews
This book deserves 5 stars. Francis W. Springer does an excellent job of bursting the bubbles of the traditional 'Civil War' myths that are taught in high school. After reading this book, you will never look at the 'Civil War', or The South, in the same way again. I recommend this book to anyone interested in finding out about the real 'Civil War.'

5.0 out of 5 stars A concise, intelligent analysis of the causes of the War, May 21, 1998
By A Customer
This book is deceptive in that its small size might lead one to believe the book is light reading. Far from it. The book is a sound analysis of the political/economic realities that led to secession and war. It delves deeply past the modern-day politically-correct pap that currently passes as history. Well worth the effort to get this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars important addition to the debate, July 5, 2003
By Greg Barnes (Missouri Ozarks) - See all my reviews
This book details the Southern case in the debate over which side was right. Springer brings out a lot of facts that do not appear in the standard books on the subject (which are written from the Yankee perspective). He could have done a better job of footnoting, but that is my only complaint about the book. It deserves much wider distribution, especially among our schools.
