Editorial Reviews

Product Description

From the Foreword by Prof. Benyamin B. Lichtenstein: "You are about to read a book that could change your perspective forever. Books like this are rare, and should be savored. Ken Gronbach's book is so compelling, and his writing is so direct, that you'll probably read it in the very first sitting." "Generational marketing is founded on the rise and fall of the size of populations, and their effects on economics, social issues and business -- in whatever geographical confines they may exist. In the United States, generational marketing is particularly pronounced because there is an enormous rise and fall in populations. Huge numbers are preceded by small numbers, and then followed by small numbers. They significantly change things in the economy. They significantly change things in education. They significantly change things in government. They significantly change things in business. And these are all very predictable things. Generational marketing is understanding what's next." -- Kenneth W. Gronbach In any generation, large or small ... "Two percent do the work, two percent cause the trouble, the rest eat the food." -- Kenneth W. Gronbach "You will never see and hear the media the same way again." -- Bill Ford

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW....this stuff should be taught at The Harvard Business School!, December 10, 2007
Common Census is curiously simple, yet profound. If you sell anything, goods or services, this is a must read before ramping up. This study of generational populations reveals why the Ipod is a homerun, and the retirement community, as we know it, will fade away. This quick read has helped me define where the money won't be, and the best generation(s) to market to. You'll want to read it over again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Common Census, May 15, 2005
The author is right on target. This made me acutely aware that many of my own beliefs were based more on what I have been fed by the media than on the hard facts.
Gronbach has an interesting style that is often tongue in cheek. I read it from cover to cover and was fascinated by his statistics. It was great to have a chance to read something that was both fun and enlightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Unique and Valuable Book, June 14, 2005
By John Zeller (Storrs, CT) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book provides insight into an essential aspect of marketing that is often overlooked or even totally ignored by the mainstream media and society in general, namely the economic ramifications of the sizes and "personalities" of the different U.S. generations. Numerous statistics, relevant examples from the past, and predictions for the future are presented in a way that is engaging and thought-provoking. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about making money, or just interested in better understanding our economy and where it is headed.
