Product Description

The Spring Primer is the most complete book on the Spring Framework. It is for users who are familiar with Java development but have never used Spring. As you read this title, you will learn how Spring reduces the amount of code you have to write and why it receives so much attention and respect from the Java community. This book is very code-intensive and contains many examples for developing applications with Spring. You'll use Test-Driven Development to rapidly develop and test a simple CRUD application. All of the code in this book is available on SourceBeat's web site. In addition, an open-source project called Equinox is available as part of this book to help users get started quickly and easily with Spring.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing book, January 21, 2005

This is truly an amazing book I can recommend to anyone developing web applications with J2EE. The amount of information provided is simply incredible, it's not 'only' about the Spring framework. There's a lot more to learn like different view technologies and a really extensive chapter about testing your applications.

I've never read a computer book providing such excellent examples (and it's not about a Petstore!). The author really knows his stuff from experience and his support is outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great step-by-step guide, February 22, 2005

Very well done. My favorite aspect is that Matt provides step-by-step refactorings of typical production code to not only show you the "hows," but also the "whys" of Spring and ways to get familiar a bit at a time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most, but., August 6, 2005
By Randy (Cumming, GA USA) - See all my reviews
There's a lot of stuff in here. It explains all the basic Spring functionality and also gives a lot of old code/Spring code comparisons. My only complaint is that the subjects didn't seem to flow together; it used examples that, although they were appropriate, didn't tie in with each other. This also made it difficult for me to find things in a "reference book" mode.
