Product Description

This is the perfect book for anyone who suspects that excellence cannot be bought at a toy store and that spending time with children pays off. The 2,000 Best Games and Activities is an essential book for parents and other caregivers of children from babyhood to eight years old. Its unique concept is to teach children-through games and play-the first significant steps that will help them grow into confident, independent individuals, laying the groundwork for the child to become a successful teenager and adult. The book focuses on seven life skills that are key to children's academic and social success: -- Communication -- Curiosity -- Decision-making -- Kindness -- Playfulness -- Self-control -- Self-esteem

The activities for each skill are arranged by age. Each activity includes a descriptive title, the expected duration of play, materials needed, directions for starting and ideas for extending the activity when interest wanes. This is more than a recipe book for dazzling children or filling their time; it is a planning guide about how to use play, the most natural of childhood activities, as a teaching tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift for friends with kids / all parents, August 26, 2004
By J. ZOROMSKI "jazy.net" (Oakland, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I gave this book as a gift to my older sister to use with my niece (age 9) and nephew (age 5). My sister replied that she absolutely loved the book; that there are so many creative, fun and thought-provoking activities and games in here to keep both her kids busy, entertained, and engaged. She was very impressed with the book overall, and for her to comment that her sometimes finicky kids are enjoying these activities says a lot. You'll be amazed at how many clever ideas are crammed into this little book. Many activities are so straightforward yet unique and thought inspiring; just great for working out those young minds when they need it most.

3.0 out of 5 stars not a 5-star book, December 13, 2007
There are about 600 activities in the book instead of 2000 as the titile suggested. Most of the activities are just common sense. I don't know why the book received all 5-star reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carry it in your back pocket!, May 19, 2004
By A Customer
This book is amazing! I knew within 20 minutes of using this book that I would do well to carry it in my back pocket. It is amazingly easy to locate just the right activity, set it up and watch the learning take place. It also helps me to use spur of the moment opportunities to the fullest. This should be given to parents before they leave the hospital with their new babies!
