Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Whether his topic is gay marriage, school shootings, or recreational drug use, Karel's first book is sure to infuriate everyone from George W. Bush to Elizabeth Birch, and provides a sharp, funny and definitely un-politically correct alternative to the increasingly bland offerings of both the gay and mainstream media.

Charles Karel Bouley and his partner, Andrew Howard, were the first openly gay male couple to host a major-market radio show in drive time. After Andrew's unexpected death in 2001, Karel moved his show from KFI in Los Angeles, to KGO, the number one talk station in San Francisco. His columns appear regularly in The Advocate, and on Advocate.com.

About the Author
Charles Karel Bouley came to national attention in 1998 when he and his partner, Andrew Howard, became the first openly gay male couple to host a major-market radio show in drive time. The Karel and Andrew show on KFI was an instant hit and was hailed by USA Today as "wildly popular and irreverent" and by the Los Angeles Times as "the freshest breath of air Los Angeles radio has had in years." The show continued until 2001, when Andrew died unexpectedly. His columns and reviews appear regularly in The Advocate, Billboard, and The Orange County/Long Beach Blade and on Advocate.com. He lives in Long Beach, Calif.

5.0 out of 5 stars Karel has a lot to say., July 14, 2004
Laugh (out loud), cry, think, talk. This book says it all. It will make you laugh. Crisp dialog and quick wit on every page. This book will make you cry. Read about about Karel's bond with his mother. This book will make you think. Karel writes about everyday topics, news, and cultural happenings from a gay man's prespective. But don't think of it as a "gay" book or you'll miss the boat. Because you'll often find yourself in that "ah-ha" moment when you realize that you agree with his point of view; that it all makes sense. But most of all "You Can't Say That" will make you want to talk. To talk about society, fitting in, loving and leaving, life and death. So read it. Share it with your friends. Then get ready for the dialog to begin. Karel has a lot to say, indeed.

I have listened to Karel for about 3 years now, and he calls it like he sees it. I agree with 98% of his views, I love him for who he is and how he shares his life openly with us.

4.0 out of 5 stars economists beware
Karel is a very entertaining host and I respect the fact he says what he thinks-- which too many people today haven't the guts to do. Read more
