5.0 out of 5 stars Seasoned tips on how to research a franchise opportunity, February 10, 2005
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Plenty of workers want to own their own business: for those who would buy into a successful formula, there's attorney James A. Meaney's How To Buy A Franchise, an excellent book (especially for the novice entrepreneur) which is packed from cover to cover with invaluable and seasoned tips on how to research a franchise opportunity, analyze its financial and sales details, and understand typical disclosure documents and agreements. No franchise purchase should be considered without understanding the basics in How To Buy A Franchise.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Generic Information, June 27, 2006
By A. Gupta (So. California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book barely scratches the surface. It has very generic advice. For instance, you will find the author repeat again again and again the common cliche 'Buyer beware'. Further there is only 130 pages of material in there. The rest is appendices with agreement formats. I personally did not think that this book delved deep enough. It just gives very general advice like you should make sure you read the terms carefully, use a lawyer and speak to existing franchisees with a detailed list of questions. Hey I don't know about you but these facts are very common place and common sense to me. I would have expected that the author should have talked about a handful of successful franchisors in different business areas and given us a taste of the good and bad players. Really let down by this book!
