3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not that practical...., February 20, 2001
By Lynn B. "alceria" (Roseville, MI USA) - See all my reviews
I ordered the other Rider-Waite miniature deck a couple days ago, but I saw this deck today at a local occult shop, and just had to have it, because it's even smaller! It's very cute, and the colors in the Universal deck are much nicer than the original colors in the Rider-Waite, but this deck is simply too small to be practical. The cards are about the size of a postage stamp - 3.5cm by 2.1cm to be precise. Shuffling is almost impossible. I wouldn't try to give a serious reading with this deck. The deck I bought came in a little plastic box attached to a key ring. The box seems pretty sturdy and it probably would stand up to regular wear-and-tear if you decided to put it on your keychain. This is a fun deck if you are a collector, or tarot lover that wants a little conversation piece, or something to play with when you're stuck in a waiting room or something like that. However, if you are attempting to learn the tarot or want to read regularily with this deck, I suggest you get a bigger one.

I liked the idea of the other reviewer who said she was going to use them for a display. That sounds really neat, and I might get a second deck myself so I can do this. These would also be really nice for decoupage - perhaps even decoupaging a box to hold your real reading deck.

Overall, this is a cute little deck that I don't regret buying, though I doubt I'll get much practical use out of it. For the price, it's a fun little toy. (I paid more at the store I got mine from.) If you want a cute accessory, buy it. If you want a serious reading deck, keep searching.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but too small for my taste., February 3, 2002
By Uri Raz (Israel) - See all my reviews

The deck is really cute - the universal Rider deck, faithful to the fully sized deck, but the size of a keyholder.

It makes for a lovely show & tell item, but is impractical for reading - such small cards are really hard to shuffle, arrange, and read.

The Rider deck is printed in five sizes - giant, regular, pocket, miniature, and tiny. The giant is good for classes, the regular and pocket are good for readings, while the tiny is good just for the curiosity factor.

It comes in a quality plastic box with a good small chain, so it can really serve as a keyholder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Right for Some, February 8, 2007
By Dawn Killen-Courtney (St. Louis Park,, MN United States) - See all my reviews

I've been a fan of Mary Hanson-Roberts skill with color for many years, and in fact, own the human-sized version of this very deck. This deck fits beautifully into the scale of my created fantasy world with my troll collection, so naturally, they got this, a miniature of mine! What fun! I do have to confess to being mystified by the reviewers comments that this deck is impractical, when it obviously was developed as a curio, and secondly, there is a full size version of it available. In any case, we're taking delight in it here.
