We hear about Kathryn, a deaf American who built a ministry to the deaf in Israel; Tammy, who set up businesses in Nepal to help abused women and had to overcome difficulties such as the loss of her visa and former employees setting up a rival business; Pam, who lived and worked in war-racked Tajikistan, a country completely alien and unknown to Westerners; and Cindy, who ended up returning as a missionary to Vietnam after escaping from there as a teenager.

Brief fact files between stories highlight global abuses of girls and women, such as female infanticide, child brides, sex trafficking, girl soldiers, female circumcision, and "honor" killings. But this book does not stop at raising the reader’s awareness. True Grit points out simple ways for us all to help turn the tide for women worldwide.



About the Author

Deborah Meroff has traveled to over 80 countries in the last 18 years in her role of journalistat- large for the Christian mission organization, Operation Mobilization. She has had several books and dozens of articles published. Meroff is also a columnist of Woman Alive magazine.

This is a book that is worth reading. It is interesting, informative and full of facts. It is also disturbing and unbelievable that this abuse is going on in the world toward children and women.

I found it interesting to read about each of the 9 women and their stories of how God used them and worked in their lives and allowed them to minister to women and children. Between each of the chapters are facts on various topics such as female infanticide, domestic violence and poverty in the world.

This is a book that will cause you to think about these issues and open your eyes to a different life.

George Verwer, founder of Operation Mobilization, is one of the biggest names in Christian books today, and "True Grit" by Debbie Meroff is his "book of the decade."

Historically, Verwer's "decade books" have sold hundreds of thousands of copies. Now, "True Grit" is poised to do just that. It has already sold 70,000.

"True Grit" is powerful, convicting, sobering, inspiring, saddening, and reality-filled about how women are suffering, exceedingly, around the world *and* how God is working in the midst of it.

Describing the horrors of female infanticide, extreme gender inequality, female circumcision, domestic abuse, honor killings and more--and *challenging* us to ask God how He would have us, individually, play a role in alleviating the suffering--Meroff also succeeds in *inspiring* us with the courageous stories of women who are being used powerfully of God to do just that.

"True Grit" is a must-read for every Christian today - no less for men than for women. I myself have distributed dozens of copies to friends and strongly believe in the mega-hard-hitting yet graciously-balanced, globally-significant yet personally-relevant *dynamite-substance* of this powerful book.
