Editorial Reviews

Review

"Ethel Herr is an excellent teacher. As a result of her book I was schooled in the craft of writing. At the same time, I was deeply instructed that whatever I do, it should be for God's glory and not mine. I've spent the last decade recommending this book to any aspiring writer." -- y

5.0 out of 5 stars A"Must Have" Christian Writer's Companion, June 10, 2003
By Amy L. Harden "A L Harden" (Chespeake, VA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is indispensible for the apprentice Christian Writer. If you hear the call to write as a Christian Writer this is the book to spiritually and technically get you going in the direction that God is calling you. If you can't afford joining the Christian Writer's Guild's two year course, Ethel Herr stands in as your mentor and guides you through the learning process, developing your disciplines and skills. Everything you need to get going as a Christian writer is in this book. Her exercises and assignments really work your writing muscles. Buy your Christian Writer's Market and this book...you will be good to go. I highly reccommend this book for every writer's library.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic How-to Writing Book for Christians, May 15, 2006
Ethel Herr is a remarkable writing teacher and this book takes every reader by the hand and guides them through the beginning questions with solid answers and exercises. The simplicity of this book combines with depth and experience about the Christian market to make it a must-have for every Christian writer. Take the pages apart, study them and work through each assigment to improve your own skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sincere Review (this is not for fluff), February 17, 2006
Ethel Herr's book is the most inspiring instructional book I have ever read - on any subject.

Within just a few pages, she somehow becomes personally involved in the reader's development as a writer. Her overview on "What is a Christian Writer" really does go to the heart of writing as an art form, what it means to be a writer, and understanding the impact of your work. Most of all, I appreciate the integrity of her work and the simplicity with which she writes. She emphasizes that a writer's craft must be developed with a heart for truth and sincerity as well, no matter what you write; and that you must take responsibility for what you produce.

I've gotten more out of a few sections of her book than I did taking a writer's course. It is something to be experienced, not merely read.

Thank you Ms. Herr.
