5.0 out of 5 stars Insight from a witty and honest writer, May 5, 2005
From these candid, funny, and wise pages, author and mom, Christine Louis Hohlbaum, opens the door to the multicultural daily dance and shuffle of motherhood. The insight of a professional woman turned stay-at-home Mom provides a compass to maneuver gracefully through the ever-changing directions of children, in faith and with humor. Christine's stories are refreshing - a breath of fresh air for parents, actually for all of us! She speaks with gritty honesty and promises only entertainment, although the nuggets of wisdom tucked into the stories of family dynamics and children's antics are real. She tells it like it is and spurs our interest to explore and read more. I highly recommend it to those parents that I coach because it guides all parents through their own thoughts and questions about parenting, and shows how to enjoy motherhood!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful read!, February 16, 2006
By Elizabeth Pantley (Kirkland, WA USA) - See all my reviews
Hohlbaum has a good heart and is a dedicated mom, and she's not afraid to talk about the fears and worries that all moms share. Her book is clever and honest and easy to read in short bursts - perfect for a busy mother.

5.0 out of 5 stars S.A.H.M. I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe , May 3, 2005
S.A.H.M. I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe contains a series of humorous, down to earth, real life stories about the life of the author, Christine Louise Hohlbaum. As is the case with most modern women, the author struggles to have it all by being a Work-at-Home Mom (W.A.H.M) trying to write this particular book while undertaking the very challenging and time consuming career of being a Stay-at- Home Mom (S.A.H.M) of two small very healthy and energetic children.

To add even more into this already chaotic mix, Hohlbaum's husband is transferred from the United States to Germany. Thus, the family must learn how to fit into a different culture complete with different customs and family expectations. This aspect of the book allows an enlightening look into life, culture, and customs in Germany. Some of these differences might seem small and easy to adjust to for adults. However, for small children, it may be quite an adjustment not to celebrate Halloween and Thanksgiving as they did in the United States.

As any parent knows, small children and chaos go together like PB&J. Everyday is full of adventure, hilarity, and great new insights into the world. Life is never busier or more sticky than this special time in a child's life. Hohlbaum has the amazing ability to step back and see the humor and the insightfulness in her life and then share her findings with others.

S.A.H.M. I Am: Tales of a Stay-at-Home Mom in Europe is hilarious and completely entertaining with wonderful gems of insight into the need to enjoy your children at every stage of their development. Moms and Dads (both Stay-at-Home and those Working-outside-the-Home) of small children will see themselves and their children in Hohlbaum's descriptions. Suddenly, those incidents will be a little funnier and a little less serious than they seemed at the time. Those Moms and Dads with older or grown children will find themselves reminiscing with a laugh and maybe a tear or two about similar such times. Perhaps, even wishing that their quiet clean house was just a bit messier and busier with the chaos that young children bring.
