5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Instrumental Collection, October 20, 2001
By John DePrisco (Wilmington, Delaware United States) - See all my reviews
This cd replaces some of the original 45's that I had back in the 60's. My favorite, "Apache" (Jorgen Ingmann), may have been a few years ahead of its time when it was released in 1961. It certainly wasn't cut from the typical mold of three or four guitars and a drummer. It was also popular enough that there was a vocal version made (can't remember who made it), but it was far from the hit that Ingmann's version was. A one hit wonder from Denmark, "Apache" made it all the way to # 2 on the US charts. "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" is a great rock version of the old Vaughan Monroe hit (late 1940's I think). The background sounds of whooping cowboys and bleeting steers adds to the flavor of the track. "No Matter What Shape" (T-Bones) was based on the popular Alka-Seltzer commercial, which I remember very well. In fact, the T-Bones 33 1/3 album of the same name (which I still have) features a scene from the commercial, one man poking the very large protruding stomach of another man. "Bulldog" (Fireballs) is one of those rock insturmentals that you simply cannot avoided tapping your toes to but don't hear on the oldies station. The rest of the cd is just as enjoyable, a great addition if you like instrumentls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Instrumental Hits, June 19, 1999
By A Customer
I bought this cd because I was looking for the song Wild Weekend by the rebels. Some of the songs like Lets Go by the Routers and Riders in the Sky by the Ramrods are new to me. This is a great collection and Rhino records should be congradulated for not putting in re-recordings of these songs like some labels do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really worth the money, February 3, 2001
By Larry Reid "gaian2000" (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Most of the great rock instrumentals are here. I was disappointed that "The Lonely Bull" was not included, but I guess I'll just have to keep looking for that one. The sound is great and they are all original hit versions by the original artists. Can't beat that.
