Songwriter, producer, pianist, and singer Allen Toussaint stands as one of the master architects of New Orleans R&B. Here he enlists various Crescent City singers and players, among them the rhythmic New Birth Brass Band, swinging blues singer Wallace Johnson (an all-but-forgotten stylist), and Tricia Boutte and Larry Hamilton (who team up for the slow-burning "New Year's Resolution"). Toussaint on the piano sprinkles Mardi Gras dust on "Silent Night" and "Winter Wonderland." A New Orleans Christmas is catchier than the flu bug. --Martin Keller

Just about any project headed by Allen Toussaint wins my unmitigated praise. But this CD is not just about Allen Toussaint. It's got great stuff on it, including "Santa's Second Line" from the New Birth Bras Band. This tune calls forth images of Louis Armstrong sing "Izzat You Santa Claus," but with a New Orleans parade band twist. Anyone who has heard the infectously joyful strains of a New Orleans parade band will want to pick up this CD. Not only that, the Cd has Allen Toussaint himself playing "Silent Night, Holy Night" and "Winter Wonderland." This guy rocks! He has absorbed all the New Orleans piano rhythms, from Jelly Roll Morton right down to
