5.0 out of 5 stars One for the imagination., September 1, 2001
By Balazs Bognar (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Soundtrack Saga is the latest work of Swedish producer Peter Benisch--and it is a masterful collection of ethereal melodies, and beautiful soundscapes. Although perhaps a bit less known than his Swedish house and techno contemporaries, Benisch has been quietly releasing dense music of the highest order, with releases on Svek, and with Adam Beyer as Phases (on Joel Mull's Inside imprint), to name a couple of examples.

This, Benisch's third full-length album, is truly the soundtrack without a movie, or rather, it is the score to an imagined film, set in the lonely tundra of northern Scandinavia, as the cover art might suggest. Ten pieces drift into one another, with voices, metallic chords, and multiple melodies flowing in and out of the listener's perception. The album begins with "Skymning," a haunting number accompanied by Nico Pederson on guitar, and eases into "The Wireframe Fields," a chillier version of the first piece. Others of note are "Love Theme," "Precious," and "Spiralling," in which Benisch uses the voices of several vocalists with moving results.

Benisch manages a work of music which is at once simple and dense, quiet and grand, lonely and comforting--refreshing and surprising release. For those weary of producers churning out house and techno records by the crate-load, this "sound track" comes highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Electronic music cds of 2001!, May 2, 2002
By Gregory C Hill (Sacramento, CA United States) - See all my reviews
First of all I buy a LOT of EM cds, Ambient, IDM, and a few other styles of EM music. This cd is probably my favorite of the last several years..some EM purists might think its a little to "Commerical" sounding but I disagree. I LOVE the way he constructs the songs on this cd..I can't get enough of Synth music that has a melodic feel to it, and this cd is one of the best EVER at producing melodic type songs...tons of slick sounding synth strings, which sort of reminded me of one of my other favorite musician's..Patrick O'Hearn... I cannot believe more people do not review this cd, it BLOWS away 99 percent of most Electronic music, and I wish more people knew about this so it could boost Mr.Beneish's music a little more. If you buy this and like it you have to also buy(super hard to find though!) his fax cd called Waiting For Snow..another CLASSIC! buy this if you like quality EM music!

5.0 out of 5 stars I agree fully with previous reviewers, July 5, 2003
By Linus Loevholm (Uppsala, Sweden (also Edinburgh, Scotland)) - See all my reviews
I know that this doesn't make this a real review per se, but I think most has been said already. I just wanted to confirm the views supported here.

If you are interested in more music from Mr Benisch, you should really consider "Waiting For Snow" and "Lindego", two full length CDs that in many ways equal the greatness of "Soundtrack Saga". These releases are a lot darker and more mellow, but all show the same degree of quality, great beat-programming, melody and electronic flow. Recommended!

ps. another CD is coming July 2003 - look forward! ds.
