Amazon.com Review

For patients with hypertension, home monitoring can help detect dangerous blood-pressure spikes before they cause problems. Tracking blood pressure over time also gives a better overall picture of health than a single reading at a hospital or clinic, where nervousness can often distort results. The easier the measurement process, the easier it is to commit to this small daily routine--and there's no simpler model to use than a finger blood-pressure monitor, especially if you need to take the readings yourself. There's no messing around with bulbs or gauges or bulky arm cuffs--you don't even need to roll up your shirt sleeves. Simply insert an index finger and adjust the positioning slide to make it fit snugly, then press the start button to make the finger cuff automatically inflate. (Those with very small fingers--less than 2 inches in diameter--might have difficulty making the finger cuff fit tightly enough.) The monitor then calculates blood pressure and pulse rate for you, alternating blood pressure and pulse readouts in large, easy-to-read numbers on the digital display. It even shuts off automatically after use, to save those AAA batteries. The only downside: finger blood-pressure monitors are more sensitive than other models to variables like position and temperature. It's not a bad idea to back up your own readings with regular visits to your doctor's office, and be sure to check your monitor's accuracy while you're there. --Mary Park

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fabulous Product; Accurate and Simple, October 6, 2003
I am purchasing this monitor after having used many different types and brands of monitors. I have high blood pressure and after the birth of my daughter, another medical condition necessitated the care of a home health care nurse. One nurse used this monitor, another a wrist monitor, another an automatic arm monitor. Amazingly, it was the finger monitor that consistantly proved itself the most accurate when compared with manual arm cuff readings. The wrist was the absolute worst. Even the automatic arm cuff was off by at least 10 pts. everytime. This could be due to the fact that I am a large boned, heavier person and the other monitors tended to barely fit. Because of this, I would recommend this monitor especially for those in the same situation. I only feel comfortable recommending this monitor because of its consistant performance compared to everything else. I can't explain others' experiences. I can only say that I feel extremely comfortable using this machine to monitor my high blood pressure at home. And I am awfully picky!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Easy to Use, December 12, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Want to monitor your blood pressure and ensure you are becoming more healthy? The Lumiscope blood pressure monitor reports your systolic and diastolic pressure as well as your heart rate.

I got this for my family members to help keep track of their blood pressure as we maintained our low carb lifestyle, and we found it VERY easy to use. In fact, we leave it in our kitchen and whenever people come to visit, they pick it up and play with it, without needing any instruction manual at all. You hold it in your left hand, with your finger in the cuff. You slide the slider until it's snug. You hit the ON button and then you hit START. That's it!

It's smaller than a paperback book, and can sit out on a counter or shelf, easy to grab and use at any time. Anyone who visits your house can give it a try and see what their own values are without any effort at all.

A number of people who have visited us have tried it and it's worked for everyone. I suppose if you had a REALLY thin finger it might not fit snugly enough, but we have had a number of thin, athletic people use it without any trouble at all.

Because it's just on your finger, there's no worry about rolling up arm sleeves or dealing with clothing at all. Insert Finger. Hit Button. Easy as pie!

Highly recommended as a way to track your own blood pressure on a daily basis, to watch as it improves during your diet progress. In addition, it's a fun device to have around the house when friends and family visit. You might help someone you love realize they have crept up in their blood pressure, and take action!

5.0 out of 5 stars useful for relative comparisions, May 12, 2004
By Tomas (Provo, UT United States) - See all my reviews
Bought this for my 98 year old mother who works very hard to control her hypertension. She loves it because she can take her own blood pressure anytime she wishes. Once she settled in on a routine the monitor gave usefully consistent readings. While it was not precisely accurate, it was consistent in the way it was inaccurate (about 10 points low on both s&d). This consistency allows her to take note of unusual changes in her blood pressure. If she gets an unusal reading she always repeats the measure after 15 minutes to verify. With arthritis in her hands she would not be able to use an arm or wrist device.
