This tent was great for us..., June 14, 2002
By A Customer
We needed a tent for the five of us (2 adults and 3 kids), with plenty of room if the weather would keep us in the tent. I have some experience camping with more serious camping gear (Marmot and North Face), but needed a tent for all of us. This was a good price on a tent we will only be car camping from, and I liked the two seperate sleeping rooms. This tent got the acid test on the first trip out. We got to the camp site about 8-9pm, and it was completely dark by the time we got to our site and started putting it together. This tent was very easy to put up, and the directions and pictures on the bag helped. I have experience with other dome-type tents, and this one was as easy as any two-man tent. The poles are easy to figure out which one goes where, and after laying out the tent it was really easy. I had the tent up in about 20-25 minutes, and that is from opening the box to walking into the tent. I did it all myself with almost no help (can you relate?), and really didn't need it. I went ahead and put on the rain-fly, because it was going to be cool this first night (mid-50's). We all got settled in and about 11:30pm it started to sprinkle. I had not completely secured the rain-fly, so I got out in the rain to secure it. The tent held up great in the rain, and it really came down. It rained all night and there was no water in the tent in the morning. This was the most important feature of a tent I was looking for. With the size of this tent, its nice to have the larger room for games and sitting around in. There is plenty of room and has about a 6' interior height in the center. I would recommend this tent for anyone that is looking for one that they need plenty of room, and the weight is not a factor. jt

a great, big, tent, October 16, 2002
A great value for a large tent! easy to set up, Room for our small family 2 adults and one child and all of our packs inside. Tall enough to stand and change clothes in. Our daughter sleeps on a twin sized air mattress inside one room, our queens-sized airbed extends out into the main area. Sets up in 15minutes, including the rainfly and guy ropes...takedown in about five, folds/rolls easily to fit in the bag (with attached instructions that you won't need after the first go-round). After a 12-hour wind-driven rain I found two spots of water(less than a cup total), but I can't confirm whether this was from condensation or leaking, but I'll re-seal the seams anyway. Otherwise very dry! Two 9x12' dropcloths in an "L" shape make a cheap groundcover. Zippers on doors and windows are substantial and work smoothly. screen door zippers are trimmed with nylon tent fabric which is an upgrade from the tent I had(non coleman) which basically sewed the zippers right to the mesh, and separated in several places. You're probably not backpacking...so don't worry about weight and get the biggest tent you can! the "L" shape packs alot of floorspace in a small footprint! Two gripes, the rainfly really should come down to below the seam on the sides (the light/dark grey color change in the pic). AND, include some real tent stakes, or none at all! those rediculous bent metal stakes that they include are completely useless! When getting the tent, do yourself a favor and pick up a dozen sturdy metal or abs tentstakes! All in all a great tent, from a Company that really seems to own the family camping market...for good reason!*UPDATE 2003!* Exactly 365 days from my initial downpour test, I experienced the EXACT same weather and my previously dry tent leaks terribly! I've been sealing the seams just about every time I set her up, but was not prepared for water pouring through the walls! Whatever waterproofing was on the tent has worn off in the 8 trips I've used it.(abrasion from folding and setting up must take it's toll.). Still a great tent, but I'll never travel without an extra tarp again!

Fantastic tent for the weekend camper, August 2, 2005
This tent is very well constructed, and holds up well in the rain. Although it seems rain may get under the rain fly and go through the meshed roof in some areas, the rain fly does its job. We encoutnered a pretty bad storm the last night camping where there was 40+ MPH wind and very hard rain and there was no leaking or problems at all. Very roomy, I can stand in the middle with clearance and I am 6'2". The only problem I had is getting the tent back in the bag, which is nearly impossible. Coleman as well as other tent manufacturers need to start making stock bags bigger... We are not all professional tent packers.
