Product Description

Editorial Review
Do your kids have a hankering for a McFlurry soft serve treat? Forget about having to head to the McDonald’s drive-through window. This battery-free McFlurry Maker lets you make these tasty desserts right from home. Once assembled, kids pour half-and-half cream and a packet of McFlurry dessert mix into the metal canister, add the mixing fin and lid, and then pack ice cubes, salt, and warm water around the canister. Kids then attach the lid and handle and mix the contents for about 5 minutes until the ingredients reach a soft consistency. The plunger attachment goes on next and dispenses the McFlurry into a waiting cup, where all there is left to do is add sprinkles and stir. The kit comes with a McFlurry cup with lid, a spoon for stirring, two packets of dessert mix, and two packets of rainbow sprinkles. Refill ingredient packs are sold separately. The dessert maker must be completely disassembled after each use for cleaning and has many small parts that are not dishwasher-safe, which is a bit of an inconvenience. Smaller children will absolutely need a parent’s help to set up and break down this kitchen gadget for each use. --Cristina Vaamonde

Product Description
Create and enjoy your own McDonald's McFlurry without leaving home. Just add cream (not included) and a packet of ice cream powder to the inner canister. Then add ice and salt (not included) to the outside canister and stir. Place the special McFlurry cup under the tap and voila! You're ready to add your favorite treats, mix it up and enjoy your creamy creation. Have fun experimenting with different mix-ins, too. McFlurry Maker comes with canister, stirrer, extruding tool, cup with cover, two packages of ice cream powder, two packages of treats and a McDonald's coupon. Refills sold separately. Each packet makes one serving.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unlovin' Spoonful, October 28, 2003
Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
We just bought the McFlurry machine for my 8 year old daughter for her birthday. It is fairly easy for an adult to put together, but a little confusing for a kid. That's not a problem however, as adults are used to putting toys together for a child.

First of all, you have to be careful and not fill up the canister too much with the ice and salt, or you will get salt in your ice cream, which believe me, doesn't taste very good.

Also, be prepared to put a towel under the machine or you will have water every where. By the way, you will need 3/4 cup of table salt each time you use the machine, so make sure you buy salt before hand. After you turn the handle for like 6-8 minutes, then your ice cream is done. Keep in mind the metal container that the ice cream is made in is about half the size or less than the cup you are supposed to eat it out of. So you wind up with your cup about 1/4 full. A few bites maybe. To fill the cup up and peaked over the brim like they show on the front of the box you would need about 5 packets of McFlurry mix and mix it up 5 times. Which of course, it only comes with 2 packets of the mix, and besides, by the time you got done making ice cream 5 times for 6-8 minutes each time, what you had already made would be melted. Most kids would get tired doing this 5 times in a row anyway. They would have to set what they had already made into the freezer and total time would be about an hour to fill that darn cup all the way up.

So in other words, you follow all the directions, you will get a 1/4 ice cream in the cup that is provided. Maybe 3 or 4 bites at best. We also bought the refills at $5.00 each. They come with 2 packets and the 2 packets sprinkles. So we wasted $35.00 on the machine and refills.

Oh, and clean up is not easy and simple. You have to take the many pieces back apart and wash every thing so that you don't wind up with sour milk in the cracks. A kid is not going to be able to get it clean enough to be sanitary.

So all in all, to get a few bites of ice cream, your going to spend alot of money, have a mess to clean up and a frustrated child who wants the cup filled all the way up like the picture on the front of the box.

Believe me, don't waste your money on this, you will have a very disappointed kid on your hands.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, November 12, 2003

Basically this toy is the same as buying a child's ice cream maker type toy only it is in the shape and comes out like a McFlurry. Other than the mix, the only things you need are half and half (1 cup per mix package), ice and table salt.

The toys is not fun because my 6 or 8 year old could not turn the crank to mix it without help. There is a little arm that goes down into the ice/salt mixture and churns that and it is hard to turn it particularly at first.

The size cup that is provided is about the size of a small or medium drink from McD's and one mix package filled this cup up about 1/3 of the way. It was also difficult for my 6/8 year olds to use the plunger to dispense the McFlurry.

I suppose it could have a tiny bit of educational value if the parent explained the reason for the ice salt/mixture but other than that I don't really see any.

The product itself is durable. It doesn't seem like anything would break and nothing did when we used it.

My kids were disappointed and said that they would have had just as much fun with less aggravation had we just bought a 1/2 gallon of ice cream.

I bought this for my 8 year old and what a waste of time and money. First it doesn't tell you on the box that you need salt and cream, so we opened it up only to put it back until I went to the supermarket and bought cream and salt. It was hard to put together and after it was ready to use, the mcflurry tasted aweful. It tasted like vanilla with salt in it. This product stinks and I would never recommend it to anyone.
