Grant Green is the great unsung hero of jazz guitar. In 1967 Green recorded this fine album Iron City which seemed to suggest that the guitarist was set to rise to the top but his career was derailed by drug addiction and such players as Wes Montgomery and George Benson came instead to prominence. Presumably recorded for then-thriving Prestige Records, Iron City was first issued in 1972 on Cobblestone Records and again in 1978 on Muse. Now that it is released on CD, a new generation of jazz listeners can hear how forceful the guitarist could be in the right funk. Five Four. 2006. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.
