Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Disney once again plunders the delightful Winnie-the-Pooh books for an animated movie, this one centered around the wee and insecure Piglet. Feeling unappreciated by his friends, Piglet wanders off into the Hundred Acre Wood; in his absence, Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, and Rabbit reminisce about various adventures (including when Kanga and her baby Roo first arrived in their midst, and building a house for Eeyore) and begin to recognize Piglet's crucial contribution to their lives. Unfortunately for moviegoers, the gentle but sly whimsy of A.A. Milne's books has been turned into pure saccharine, which isn't helped by mediocre animation and appallingly bland songs (by Carly Simon, of all people). Even the most Pooh-worshipping kids are likely to find Piglet's Big Movie to be pretty small potatoes. --Bret Fetzer

Product Description

Straight from theaters, it's Piglet's very first movie . . . and a BIG one at that! In the grand tradition of Winnie the Pooh animated features, you'll delight in PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE, a wonderful story of friendship, fun, and appreciation in which Pooh and the gang learn it doesn't take somebody big to do big things! Piglet disappears into the Hundred Acre Wood after hearing he is "just too small" to help with the gang's hunny-gathering scheme. Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, and the others "think, think, think" and decide to use Piglet's scrapbook of memories to find him. Soon, they realize just how big a part Piglet plays in their many adventures together. Filled with adventure, laughter, and heart, and five new songs, PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE is endearing fun for all ages -– sure to charm everyone in the entire family!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet Movie, March 21, 2003
By Austinlvr "movie lover" (Merritt Island, FL USA) - See all my reviews
I took my 5 year old son and his friend to see this movie. My son is a HUGE Piglet fan and sleeps with him every night. His friend could care less about Piglet, but what the heck it's an opportunity to eat popcorn. I am happy to report both children really enjoyed the movie, as did all of the children in the theater from what I could tell. The whole gang goes looking for Piglet after he wonders off during a honey hunting escapade. At his home they find a book of wonderful pictures of their time together. They believe if they follow the pictures it will lead them to Piglet. Each picture leads to a new story. And that's the best part, they are NEW stories. Not just Disney rehashing the old for the sake of making a buck. There is a great sequence in the end involving all the friends coloring pictures for Pigelt and I could just imagine little one's thinking they couldn't wait to get home and color. There's no foul languange, no potty jokes, no violence, just wonderful characters, sweet songs, and friendship. It was a great break from today's stressful world.

A Kid's Review
I am 4 and it was a good movie. Cause all the friends help each other. They co-operate to have the job done. Friends are good. My grandmom helped me write this. It is a good movie for kids and grandmoms

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for Families, November 18, 2003
I have watched many versions of Winnie the Pooh, from the A.A. Milne originals to the more recent "New Adventures..." to the Book of Pooh. A Piglet Movie is much more A.A. Milne, which I personally find refreshing.

The storyline is very gentle, and the feelings evoked by the themes are very familiar to small children (being too small, not being noticed, being lost and frightened). Each short story within the film was carefully chosen and fit perfectly with the overall theme. The search for Piglet and his magical scrapbook tie them all together seamlessly. The folksy Carly Simon music may not be some people's first choice, but it just works somehow in this movie. Just right.

This movie has just the right amount of humor and excitement to hold a young child's interest without overkill. There were a couple of initial moments of nervousness for our 2 and 4 year old, when the bees were chasing Pooh and his friends, and again when Kanga gives Piglet a bath and Piglet is clearly terrified. My children have since relaxed, as they now understand these scenes a little better, but it may help to explain what's happening to little ones.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
My daughter likes it. My one complaint... the menu takes WAY too long to come up. So, if you have a fussy kid that wants to watch it "right now" it's not very easy to work with.
