Intricate and romantic, Churchill Chinas Chelsea Blue Willow dinnerware is based on a legend of two star-crossed Chinese lovers. Crafted with comfortable proportions, the dark blue and white pattern features intricate double borders with geometric detailing for a fabric-like visual texture. The central imagery depicts a Chinese landscape complete with bridges, a river, trees, and houses. Two doves--reincarnations of the fugitive lovers--hover above the scene. Churchill China adds a slight sculptural waviness to the borders of plates and bowls and the bodies of teacups for light-catching effects.
This 20-piece Blue Willow collection includes four complete place settings, each with a 10-inch dinner plate, 6-3/4-inch bread and butter plate, 6-1/2-inch cereal bowl, 5-1/2-inch saucer, and 8-ounce teacup. The dishes are crafted from high-fired earthenware and finished with a glossy top-glaze to protect the transfer-print pattern. Chip-resistant and designed to withstand frequent use, the set is safe in the microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. --Emily Bedard

A storm developed, the boat foundered and the couple were lost at sea. It is said that the two love birds appeared immediately after-the spirits of Hong Shee and Chang." To represent elements of the legend, traditional Willow has several prominent features a tea house with a pavilion on the right. An Orange tree stands behind. A willow tree dominates the centre. In front of the willow is a bridge with three people. A boat with a person in it appears top left with another building and tree. And of course the two love birds face each other at the top.You today can enjoy the history by using Willow in a formal or casual setting, this 20 Piece set starts off your new experience.
