Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Handsome and well-made, these Emile Henry Provencal salad/dessert plates make a reliably lively backdrop for mixed greens or chocolate-cherry brownies. They are easily stackable for tidy storage and have a pleasantly weighty presence that is perfect for everyday use. A set of four, the plates measure 8 inches in diameter and are safe in the dishwasher, freezer, oven, microwave, and broiler.

Since 1850, Emile Henry has been crafting superior Provencal bakeware and tableware in the same factory in Marcigny, France. Using high-quality Burgundy clay, an excellent material for its heat transfer and retention properties, Provencal dishes are handsome, durable, and ideal for producing delicious food. In addition, Emile Henry's special surface treatment ensures that the glossy glaze is scratch-resistant and does not chip, crack, or craze under typical use. Each piece of bakeware or tableware is individually inspected, comes in a variety of fresh primary colors, and includes a three-year warranty against defects. --Emily Bedard

Product Description

Marcigny, a small town nestling between the hills of Southern Burgundy, has been home to Emile Henry for the past 150 years. Faithful to its origins, the entire production is carried out here. Thanks to its clay, rich in refractory properties, Burgundy has remained a fertile area for potters, passing on their savoir-faire from generation to generation. Clay, a natural and noble material, has been used since the mists of the time to cook or preserve food. While respecting the traditional techniques, Emile Henry has introduced technological improvements (Ceradon ®) so that the dishes are more resistant to mechanical and thermal shock. Strong, durable, all Emile Henry pieces can be taken directly from the freezer to the hot oven, can go under a broiler and is microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe. The natural clay is unsurpassed for conducting and retaining heat. All pieces are perfect for everyday use and carry a 3 year warranty against defects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and durable, January 18, 2008

This review is from: Emile Henry Provencal Cerise Red 8-Inch Salad/Dessert Plates, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
I had originally looked at Fiesta ware for red dishes, but when I read in the reviews that they scratch easily, I decided to spend a bit more on the Emile Henry dishes instead. It was absolutely the right choice. They are a gorgeous true red, quite durable, and the style is simple and lasting. As a side note, I really love the red, but if you're concerned about the visual presentation of your food, you might want to consider white instead--it makes a better generic canvas for your creations.
