Editorial Reviews

Product Description

With Becoming X, Sneaker Pimps changed the course of American pop music. Five years later, Sneaker Pimps founder Chris Corner aka I AM X embarks on a solo journey to showcase his exceptional production and songwriting talent.

Kiss + Swallow is really all about songs: dark, futuristic ones expressed in an electronic environment. From "Kiss and Swallow", an upbeat radio anthem, to the 80’s influenced "Heatwave" or the end of days "White Suburb Impressionism", the album swings moods flawlessly and captures the listener.

This is an electro-pop masterpiece, owing as much to the contemporary electronic productions of Berlin and Detroit as to the pop of Prince or Cabaret Voltaire. Chris Corner’s voice is the unifying thread, at times similar to the howlings of Cabaret Voltaire, always with the emotional clarity of Curtis Mayfield.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe Corner's best work yet, October 8, 2004
By Lightning field (harlingen, TX USA) - See all my reviews
I had little hope that anything would ever come close the greatness of the sneaker pimps' album "splinter," but Chris Corner on this solo album may even surpass it. The dark sensuality of Corner's voice combined with beats similar to but darker than those on "bloodsport" make this album intoxicating. A must have for all sneaker pimps fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Evolution Of X, March 4, 2005
Let me clear one thing up before hailing this album. Chris Corner DID NOT leave the 'Pimps as the last reviewer stated. Actually they are currently recording the forth Sneaker Pimps album... Chris is envolved in the creational process but will share the mic with a new singer for this next album. I AM X is a side project for Chris to have his creative freedom from his work as with the rest of the 'Pimps and, as far as its known, has no intention of taking himself out of the 'Pimps picture.

Onto I AM X...

Chris Corner has created a audio landscape that lends itself perfectly to his voice with this album. Full of minimal electro beats, and the squelchy acidicness of the "Bloodsport" production, this is an album that follows the evolution of Corner's work to a T. Catchy and energitc tracks such as "Skin Vission" and "Kiss and Swallow" fit nicely next to the darker, emotional tracks "Your Joy Is My Low" and "Simple Girl". As with the other 'Pimps album, there is not one track on this album that I didn't enjoy and has made this album a staple on my ipod. Well done Chris.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dark, sensual masterpiece, December 21, 2004
By J. Eisma (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
To be honest, I wouldn't have minded if this were the fourth Sneaker Pimps album. Reviewer Thomas Rowe bemoans the use of electronics and falsetto singing, but I doubt he realizes the roots of which this album is based--'80s electrosynth.

I am X mainman Chris Corner has concocted a true work of art that is filled with varying sonic landscapes. Sure, the album is electronic, but Corner uses analog instruments like electric guitar and bass guitar in 'Naked But Safe,' and violins in 'Your Joy is My Low.' The songs are also quite good--replete with hooks and catchy beats. And one must also take note of Corner's great lyrics, especially on songs such as 'I Like Pretending' and 'Missile.'

Do yourself a favor and check this album out--it's worth it!
