5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Awake; a welcome new offering, September 9, 2005
"I'm Awake", the new colleciton of original music from this talented singer / songwriter, is a nearly perfect offering. With a mix of thought provoking acoustic melodies nicely bridged with dreamy, mellow keyboard instrumentals ("Rain" is my personal favorite) Bradley Ditto not only shares his music but bares his soul - or so it seems. Several of the folk/acoustic tunes deal with love - love lost, love found, a love for life - all of which may be common themes but in Ditto's confident hands they can be tragic, yet liberating and full of promise and hope. "Your Mighty Hand" and "Put a Little Bit of Lovin' On It" are fine examples of this. Most likely the stand out of this current offering, is "Hold Me", though undoubtedly the most melancholy of all the tunes, it honestly conveys the unbearable tragedy of losing a loved one, especially one with whom we have shared a life. It remains the most haunting song of this collection - and is, quite frankly, the main reason that I couldn't rate this with only 4 stars. Perhaps 4 1/2 would be a fairer score, nearly perfect and well worth your attention.
