You may think you underpaid for this cd after playing the title song, My Life (Iris De Ment composer). It is, after all, worth the price of the recording all by itself. This is a sublime vocal performance by Grace that speaks directly to every listener's soul. Jon Carrol (Mary Chapin Carpenter pianist) and Roger Scott Craig (string arrangements) have joined Grace to make a selection which just could be her signature song - yes it is that good. The remaining songs are complements to this perfection, especially Love Is On Our Side (Tish Hinojosa composer) and Passing Thoughts (Fred Sisson/Carey Creed). Buy this CD and save on firewood for the hearth, it will warm your heart no matter what season.

I would be remiss if I did not mention that Grace was responsible for sending Eva Cassidy's music to the record company which later released it. Eva's fans will also applaud Chris Biondo and Lenny Williams who joined Grace on many of this CD's tracks as well as sharing production credits with Marcy Marxer.

What a wonderful recording. Grace you are my hero.

I am glad that someone in Atlanta has written a review. I first met Grace when I was still living there, and twenty years later, I am still blown away by her voice.

Since I cannot possibly be considered unbiased, it will not count when I say that hers is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. There are opera singers and other female vocalists who are as good in their own way. I love Grace's voice which I have heard, rambling through the autumn woods with a Scottish friend, when we all lay down on the ground and looked up at the golden canopy and Grace sang a Bobby Burns song for my Scottish friend. It was bliss.

She has sung for many of my friends in such impromptu circumstances over the years. I can vouch for the fact that her voice is authentic and does not require fancy equalizers and other electronic modification. She has a pure, true voice.

The last album was fantastic, and I was disappointed to find her still in the "Folk" section. She belongs in "Female Vocalist." Her choice of material is eclectic and deserving of recognition beyond the limited scope of Folk.

This is a beautiful record, and I highly recommend it. Must be heard...period.

Grace Griffith's "My Life" is a solid collection of folk-tinged popular music. My understanding is that she is battling Parkinson's disease; so one cannot predict how that will affect her voice. However, on this recording, it is still in crystalline form. There are many lovely moments on this disc. On "Passing Thoughts" she has a lovely reflective reading of the song, "What makes the sun rise every day? Will you grow to be a man? Why are we born? Why do we die? When faced with beauty, why do we cry?" Griffith is from the Washington D.C. area as is the excellent folk artist Susan Graham White. Grace sings Susan's "Crossing Over" with a lovely melody and sense of reflection. On "Bendemere's Stream," Grace sings the words of Thomas Moore with a lovely folk melody. My favorite track on the disc is Grace's rendition of Sting's "Shape of My Heart" with its lovely melody and stunning lyric, "He doesn't play for the money he wins; he doesn't play for respect." The rest of the tracks are also strong including "The Cuckoo," Iris DeMent's title track & Jane Siberry's "Calling All Angels." "My Life" warms your heart with its depth in performance & song selection. Enjoy!
