cellist Jacqueline du Pré (1945-87) is as popular now as ever. Her
technique was filled with passionate playing and a large cello tone, heard
especially well on her performances of Elgar, Beethoven, and Brahms.
Tragically, du Pré's promising career was cut short by the onslaught of
multiple sclerosis. But many of her indelible interpretations were captured on
recordings.
