3.0 out of 5 stars Big Blues from Texas, my review from Barcelona, July 23, 2007
This review is from: Big Blues from Texas (Audio CD)
What a grand guitarist Phllip Walker is and must be one of the real greats, he has become one of the most respected Blues musics around today. A convincing vocalist and a subtly effective guitarrist, Walker has defined the West Coast Blues sound for more than three decades really I have to say 'HE IS ONE OF MY PREFERRED BLUES ARTIST '. This cut 'Big Blues From Texas' was recorded in London, England, gets under way strongly with a witty Texas styled shuffle "Dressin' Trashy", a spectacular original one might have wished Gatemouth Brown could have cut during his glory days.Other clever originals include "Bluesmobile", "Young devil" and "Beatrice, Beatrice" a song inspired by Walker's wife of many years. A brilliant guitar Walker puts in "Insomnia" that you can notice his Texas roots, a classic "Goodie train" where Phillip tells his little girl that he'll bring her 'candy and lollipops too'. Also you can hear the OTIS GRAND's inestimable collaboration on guitar, dynamic and exciting on many cuts including the jewel slow Blues "She torture me" and "Big Blues From Texas" mainly among others, there is a very good understanding here with two Blues guitar giants. Another slow burn that is a master "She's gone" that demonstrates tha Walker can playing and singing the Blues as the best. It's a good record and I give it 3,5 stars.
