Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

Shahriar Bourbour was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. He has been playing the keyboard for 27 years. His repertoire includes western composers such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven, as well as Iranian composers such as Javad Marufi, and Rohani. He is influenced by electronic music pioneers such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream, as well as Bond, and Afro-Celt Sound Systems.

Product Description

This CD single contains two mixes of Persian Rhapsody: Pop and Dance.

Originally composed for the piano, Persian Rhapsody is in the western F minor scale, but based on the traditional 'Dastgah e Esfahan' or the Esfahan system.

This electronic compilation is an attempt to reconcile the melancholic and mystical Persian theme, to the fast-paced western beat and bass. Although it may sound too "westernized" to the traditionally trained Persian ear, westerners might appreciate the melodic, almost story-telling flow of the song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mix of musical traditions, September 8, 2000
By A Customer
This is an exciting realization of a Persian theme adapted to Western scales, harmonies and a modern beat. The adaptation of an ethnic tradition for a wider audience is one of the pleasures and indeed responsibilities of a composer trained in both classical and ethnic musical traditions. Mr. Bourbour has achieved this goal laudibly in this release. We would like to hear more from him soon, please.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice composition. Very nice first recording by artist., June 12, 2000
By A Customer
This CD is a single, with a pop and a dance version of the song. The melody is very nicely composed, and has a dinstinct persian tone. The artist has skillfuly blended the persian melody with western style beat and harmonizing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Encounter of East and West, August 14, 2000
By A Customer
Any piece of art that can transfer the feelings of the artist to the audience could be beautiful. When we can share those feelings then we love it and appreciate it. Persian Rhapsody is like that. The mystery, melacholy, and nostaligic side of Persian music is under the influence of western music. This is an expression of the artist experience. Persian Rhapsody is soft, delicate, and yet modern.
