For 61 bucks, I think it's worth it. The quality of the blu-ray transfer is so-so, but a clear improvement over the original trilogy. In this case, if you consider the fact that the Parts I & II are masterpieces, it's a good deal. Will it be cheaper at some point down the road, who knows!!
$61 is well... a lot of money for 3, 30+ year old movies and it's likely to turn some buyers away. I bought my copy because I never had the VHS or the DVD editions. The $80 price point which Amazon tested prior to release - I don't think so.
I pre-ordered it for $61.95 and I don't regret it at all. It looks better than you've ever seen the Godfather look. Is it as bright and crystal-clear as something new like Iron Man? No, but it was never intended to be. Might it be cheaper in six months to a year? Maybe. But I wanted it now. If you love movies and have Blu-ray, it's a must-own.
The Price has just been lowered to $41.99 probably to counter the Bestbuy online offer for two day sale that is in place right now. So everyone better hurry and buy it now at $41.99 just like I did at 1:10 a.m. Pacific Time Zone on Monday, Dec. 1st.
