WHY A SECOND RELEASE OF THIS BOOK,
By
This review is from: A family of Sicilians: Stories and poems (Paperback)
After ten years since A Family of Sicilians...was first published, I decided to release it again because of the many requests from those who had heard of the book and wanted to order a copy for themselves.
In the past ten years the media has become increasingly more anti-Sicilan. My main reason for having written this book in the first place was to show people what Sicilian Americans were really like, a much truer image than what the media with its mafia themes were projecting. Being a proud Sicilian American, I wanted those of my ethnicity to be likewise proud, and those of other nationalities to not only learn about us but gain respect for their own ethnicity. Reviews and personal comments revealed that in a small measure I had succeeded. I hope to continue that success in this second release of A Family of Sicilians...

His stories flow well with just the right amount of description/detail. A few scenes are similar to events in my life, so I relate to those scenes. Much of the book is not like my life (I'm not Italian), so it broadened my horizons. The fictional story "Miracle Man" won an award from Writer's Digest. Not all of the stories are fictional. Some of them are true stories. The table of contents indicates which are which. This book was reprinted in 2008.
