Wow -- good question. I went all through the manual (you can download a PDF copy directly from Canon) and they don't really address the issue. You can set options for slow shutter speeds, but they don't talk about high speeds. Most digital cameras synch from 1/15th second up to 1/1000, some up to 1/2500; you should be okay with just about any situation.
