5.0 out of 5 stars Truth for hard, difficult times in life., April 19, 2005
By
Prima Bouma (Portland Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: (fear not) Venture to inner peace (Paperback)
This little book is a hard, difficult book. Why? Because it speaks the truth in areas where the truth is a hard, difficult thing to face. Like grief. I've lost a daughter, a husband and bits of my body to cancer. That hurts. Inside. Where what makes a person a person is. And this little book has painful answers to those losses. However, these painful answers are true answers, the kind that lead to healing. There are no pat cliches, stupid comments or shallow comfort.

Each page of "(fear not)" is a complete meditation unto itself. It can be used with any form of meditation, journaling, dance therapy or art. If the reader has no established form of meditation the photograph opposite the text is there to help. The book is therefore a useful addition to the library of any therapist, counselor, or religious leader.

If one works through even a few of these meditations, healing is possible. Life with joy and a return of color to a black and white existence is possible. It is not that the ideas are necessarily new, but they are written and illustrated with clarity. The ideas are easy to understand. Hard to do, but easy to understand.

A few, very few, books I have in duplicate so I can share at need without losing my own copy. This will be one such book. My copy was a gift. I will get more copies to take to my support groups where I am sure others will find it as useful as I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lynn - Portland, OR, October 26, 2008
This review is from: (fear not) Venture to inner peace (Paperback)
(fear not) found its way to me during happy hour at a local restaurant. Serindipity happens! Just as I was entering a painful chapter of life, and never suspecting just how much more difficult things were going to get in the coming weeks, this little book was handed to me by the author, who was sitting about ten feet away. I poured over the pages while sitting at the bar, enjoying the last few sips of my beer. Later in the weekend I took the little book with me to the Oregon Coast, where I read it again three more times, but more deliberately. Thank you for the wisdom and clarity on these pages. I will need it from time-to-time as a reminder when life seems unmanageable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes..., November 19, 2007
This review is from: (fear not) Venture to inner peace (Paperback)
This book found me, that's the only way I can describe it. I was at a great little tea parlor in the Hollywood District of Portland (Mademoiselle Noelle's), not even a bookstore. I had gone in looking for a cup of tea and peace of mind. I found both. The text consists of brief paragraphs covering topics ranging from suicide to joy to expecting miracles with an accompanying black and white photo of remarkable quality. Though brief, the thoughts on each page serve wonderfully for meditation as they are not easy slogans or "sound bites." I closed my eyes, thought about my most pressing issues and just opened the book. What I read (about expecting miracles) calmed my mind and allowed me to get past my anxieties. (fear not) is night table reading. It's meant to be shared. If you have read/watched "The Secret" or "What the Bleep Do We Know?", this book will resonate with you.
